A “Housekeeping” Note

Some of you may have noticed changes on the blog recently. I’ve been trying to work on consistency so that people can more easily locate the site. Hence, the masthead now says “nawinter.com” rather than simply “Better Things Ahead.” I have updated my feed as well, so those of you who subscribe via Google Reader or other feed aggregator may notice that instead of being listed under “Better Things Ahead” it is switched to “N.A. Winter.”  You should still be subscribed, but since most feed aggregators are organized alphabetically, you may need to look further down the list to find this blog’s updates. I just wanted to let you know so that it (hopefully) reduces any confusion.

As always, I welcome your feedback. Let me know what you think of the changes or if you have any problems getting the updates!

Hope

More Than Conquerors

What little boy doesn’t at some point in their childhood play the conqueroring hero? Plastic sword drawn, riding in on their imaginary horse they are there to save the day – to ward off villains and ensure that good prevails.

And what little girl doesn’t imagine the hero rescuing her? The prince saves her from evil, vanquishing her foes so that they might “live happily ever after.”

From childhood to adulthood our hearts are captured by the stories of when the battle lines are drawn, evil is overcome, and good is declared the victor.

Yet Paul writes in Romans 8 that the victory for Christians is even greater than these stories of lore. We are “more than conquerors” through the work of Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:37). Not only is Satan defeated in the end, but in the in-between, we can have confidence that nothing can separate us from the love of our Lord. Because of Christ’s work on the Cross not only is the victory of our eternity secured, but as we wait His return His love protects, defends and provides for us. Nothing can keep one of His children from experiencing this love; nothing can overcome it.

So the next time that evil seems to overwhelm and the temptations seem to strong to resist, may we remember that for Christian not only is victory already ours, but the One who secured it is faithfully with us, enveloping us in HIs love, which nothing can stand against.
